What the court held
- Daniel Schroeder asked for bank records the Attorney General’s Office had seized by warrant while investigating the Envision Ogden group. The office refused, and the district court held the Utah Constitution’s search-and-seizure clause shielded the records. The Supreme Court reversed: records the state takes under a valid warrant or subpoena are not exempt from GRAMA, and the requester must be given the bank records. The court also ordered two investigation documents disclosed, holding the interests behind attorney work product faded once the investigation ended.
