What the court held
- Brent Young, a deputy sheriff fired in January 2000, asked Salt Lake County for the disciplinary records and investigative files of other deputies investigated for similar conduct, to use in his own termination appeal.
- The county denied the request and the sheriff denied his appeal. Young petitioned the Third District, which granted him summary judgment and ordered release with redactions protecting identities.
- The Supreme Court affirmed in part and reversed in part.
